According to the official data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, the number of residents from the United Arab Emirates, who applied for the US residency by investment programme surged nearly six-fold during 2018. The EB-5 programme leads to the Green card and the citizenship of the United States, after becoming a permanent resident. The whole immigration and naturalisation process may take only five years. Interestingly, the number of applicants rose from 1,369 approvals in 2010 to 9,602 in 2018. Meanwhile, the maximum number of successful participants is capped at ten thousand. The waiting and processing time increased for the Chinese citizens, however still they dominate the list with 4642 issued permit. It is almost the half of the total number of candidates, according to the Arabic Business. There were 54 approved residents from the Emirates, and it is a 350% increase compared to the results during 2017. There were 15 approved applications from citizens of Saudi Arabia, Qatar 16, Bahrain 2, Oman 2 . Last but not least Kuwait sent 4 successful investors in the US. Overall the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council recorded 83 approvals, an increase of 564%, compared to the previous year.

The US EB-5 programme
